What is a scientist who studies mental illness called? Please Help!!!?

Hey I wanted to know what profession it is when you like study mental illnesses and try to find the causes and prevention and things like that? Like a scientist, not a psychiatrist but a scientist and something like that. I was considering going into this field but I need to kow more but I dont know what it's called. Thanks!!!
