If all civilization as we know it disappeared, what gender roles would women and men have?

I think that the brain has developed beyond this and that it is impossible to return to having women being dragged around by their hair. If for no other reason that women would kill the man as he slept. The brain is much larger now in general but men would still need women more than women needed men. Men no matter what age need women to act like mothers and objects.
