Bible t and tackling the issues?

One of the issues I have with every election lies with these seemingly unimportant issues cropping up every election. What do I care if some gay person gets married or has a civil union; it in no way affects me. I also don't think it affects the vast majority of Americans (unless the person happens to be gay). Then, I balance this against things that to me seem to be truly important. I watched the news this morning and heard that US high schools have a drop out rate of 33%; truly sad. How can this country truly be a leader when a third of its new leaders can't even graduate high school? There is a problem!! How do we fix this? I heard that Obama mentioned something about this and was criticized by both Clinton and McCain. I believe they said he was condescending for not holding up gay marriage and some other "value issues" as important issues. Just curious about other thoughts out there.
